Any Harry Potter lovers out there? This one’s for you! When my sweet client Julie approached me to ask for help with planning and designing a baby shower for her friend Jackie, I couldn’t resist. When she told me Jackie was a huge Harry Potter fan, as a lifelong fan, I was elated.

At the start of planning, we knew two things:

One: We wanted the baby shower to be Harry Potter themed. We dabbled with other themes like “Goodnight Moon”, but in the end, Harry Potter was perfect for Jackie and her soon-to-be-born little one.

Two: We didn’t want the theme to be “in your face”. I’m a firm believer in letting a theme inspire you, vs. letting it dictate every detail.

I think we nailed it! Everywhere you looked, there was a subtle yet oh-so-clearly Harry Potter reference, and Julie, Jackie, and all of their guests loved spotting the hidden surprises throughout the day. Some favorite details included:

• Golden Snitch-shaped, Butterbeer-flavored macarons

• DIY Aged Terra Cotta Pots with Creeping Myrtle flowers and fresh rosemary planted inside – a nod to Professor Sprout’s Herbology class!

• A Sock Collection box for guests to contribute tiny socks to the newest little house elf

• The Sorting Hat – a way for guests to guess which house (Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw) Julie’s little one might be sorted into, with a note about why

• Custom, Hand-Poured, Lavender-Scented Candles called labeled “Lumos”

• Even the room we held the shower in was called the Sortor Room at Heritage of Sherborn – a nod to the Sorting Hat!
