January 8, 2019
A couple of dear friends recently turned me on to the podcast Happier with Gretchen Rubin , specifically a recent episode outlining her “18 in 2018” and “19 in 2019” goal lists. Gretchen and her sister / co-host Elizabeth read through their own 2018 lists and reflected on their accomplishments, no matter how big or small.
It got me to thinking about my own goals, for my personal life and for my business. If I’m being honest, I’d been feeling like I hadn’t accomplished a whole lot in 2018. The more I thought about it, the more I thought “of course that’s not true!” – after all, we bought a house, traveled a whole lot, and I planned, designed, and coordinated 14 weddings throughout the year. It’s funny how it’s hard to feel successful when on paper it’s been a really incredible year full of huge milestones!
That’s why I love Gretchen’s “19 in 2019” goal setting list idea so much. Right after I listened to the podcast episode, I immediately sat down and designed a quick little template to write out my own goals for the new year. I’m excited to share that template with you! The idea is to write down goals that are mix of achievable (like finally picking out drawer pulls for my kitchen) and slightly “lofty” (like traveling to one place entirely by myself). Not only does this does it feel good to write down a list of goals and keep it somewhere close by so you can check in with yourself throughout the year, by the end of the year you’ll be reminded of all of the ways in which you were successful, productive, and hopefully happier.
Cheers to 2019!
