HOLIDAY PAPER HOUSE DIY

You may already know that my husband Anthony and I bought our first home earlier this year, and it’s certainly been a wild ride. As most first-time homeowners can understand, the projects quickly pile up, and with them, so do the dollar signs. When we started decorating our home for Christmas this year, I knew I wanted to stick to a budget (or better yet, keep things free!) but was finding it hard to resist the cute little minimal white homes I was seeing at Target and Crate and Barrel. It finally dawned on me to put my one semester as an architecture major to good use and make my own!
I created a template so that you can make your own, too. The best part is that they’re super easy and virtually free! I think they bring just the right touch of coziness to our Christmas decorations, and I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as I do. Bonus points if you add a tea light inside for ultimate coziness!
You will need:
– Paper / Cardstock
– Exacto Knife
– Metal Ruler
– Cutting Mat
– Bone Folder (or similar item for creasing paper)
– Tape
– Tea Lights (optional)

Download and print the DIY Paper House template. I printed mine on thin white cardstock, but you can print on paper of any color!

Using an exacto knife, cutting mat, and metal ruler, carefully cut along the template lines including the doors and windows. Each house has three corresponding template pieces: two sets of walls, and a roof.

Fold the walls and the roof using a bone folder (a credit card or similar item will work just fine!).

Attach the walls and roof to each other using tape or glue. I used scotch tape and kept all tape on the inside so that it’s not visible. A little bit of patience is required to line up the edges, but it’s okay if they look a little imperfect! Adds to the charm!

Set on your mantel, window sill, or anywhere else in your home that could use a little extra joy. Set a faux tealight inside for the perfect winter glow!
The thing I love most about this project is that it’s quick, easy, and you can make multiple houses to create a whole village. Bonus: they’re not holiday-specific so you can keep them up even after December 25th. Enjoy!
